Fiddlehub Store: Violin/Fiddle Strings

Pirastro/Evah Pirazzi (Steel E, ball end)

These are the strings I have on my primary violin right now.  I'm on my third set over the past year and a half or so, and when the current set wears out, I'll put on new Evah Pirazzi's.  Why?  Because these are the best sounding strings I have ever used.  They cost a lot, but to me they're worth it.  I have used a variety of other strings, and like many fiddlers I used Thomastik/Dominants for years; but once I heard these Evah Pirazzi strings on my instrument, I was sold.

I describe their sound as very clean and sweet, with plenty of volume.  They are extremely responsive when I am playing light, and when I dig in up near the frog they just roar, with absolutely no cut out or fade in volume.  Fabulous.

Except for the E, these are wound, synthetic core strings.  Click the image to the right to order a set or to read reviews and get more info.

Thomastik/Dominant (Steel E, ball end)

I used these strings for many years, and they are very good.  In my experience, if you have four fiddlers in a room, three of them will have Thomastik/Dominant strings on their fiddles.  The tone is warm and rich, and the strings hold up well.  Many violin shops use them as their stock string because they are very good quality and reasonably priced.  They are wound strings with a synthetic (perlon) core, except for the E, which is steel.

Other Strings?

There is almost an infinite variety of strings available, most of which I have not used and don't know anything about.  Many are of very good quality.  I feature the Evah Pirazzi and Dominant strings here because I know from my own experience that they work.  You can buy them with confidence and concentrate on fiddling and not on what your strings are up to.  If you have an interest in other strings, you can find them easily once you get to the Amazon site.
