How To Hold And Use Your Violin Bow.
Section Links: Intro Parts Tightening Rosin The Grip The Stroke Bow Pressure
Violin bowing--Is it really all that important?
Yes! Yes! Yes, it is! Bowing is the single most important element in playing the violin/fiddle. On a scale of 1 to 10, it's an 11. It's the bowing that gives fiddle music its magical character--its driving energy.
So . . . It deserves your attention. In this lesson you'll learn to hold and use your violin bow so you can control it, keep it from bouncing off the violin strings, and get a nice, clean tone. When you're done, you'll be ready to tackle the fiddle tune lessons, all of which assume that you've worked through this violin bowing lesson and have the basics well in hand.
Here's what we'll cover:
- The parts of the violin bow;
- Tightening the violin bow and using violin rosin;
- Where and how to grip the violin bow;
- Getting a straight, smooth bow stroke;
- Applying the right amount of bow pressure to the violin strings.
