Bowing:
- The first two strokes are fairly long because they cover two 8th note values each.
- I start the first down bow a little above the mid-point, and finish the first slur still above the mid-point.
- This is becaue of the series of short up and down strokes that follow on the high E string. I want these to be fairly fluid (not a lot of "bite"), and I find it easier to accomplish this if I'm a little higher up on the stick.
- The second slur will need a long, slow bow, but in this case you don't need to speed up the bow on the preceeding stroke to position yourself for the slur. This is because you are already out toward the end of your stick. The last note on the E string really doesn't need any more bow than the four preceeding notes do.
Fingering:
- Once you place your 1st finger on the E string for the second time, leave it there while you play the 2nd and 3rd finger notes on that string.
- Once you place your 3rd finger on the A string to start the last four-note passage, be sure to leave it there long enough so that the 2nd finger can "feel" it and use it as a reference for its own correct placement.
- The "feel" i'm talking about doesn't take long to get, and in the video it's hard to see that I'm using the 3rd finger as a reference for the 2nd; but I am.
