Bowing:
- More of the same. Speed up your bow where you need to so you'll have bow length available for the long slurs.
Fingering:
- This tune is in the Key of D, and on the D and A strings, the second finger normally plays just below the third finger. Think of this as the "default" location for the 2nd finger. When you see a "2" in the tablature, you know this is where the 2nd finger goes.
- But on the high E string, the 2nd finger plays just above the 1st finger in the Key of D. The tablature lets you know this by putting an "L" next to the "2." The "L" stands for "lower." You need to lower your 2nd finger and position it below the place where you normally would put it. For more information on all this check out the lesson on fingering.
- Once the 1st finger comes down on the E string the second time, it stays there while the 2nd finger plays, and doesn't move until the time comes to play the E string open. This accomplishes two things:
- First, if the 1st finger note was in tune the first time you played it, it'll be in tune the next time as well.
- Second, once the 1st finger is down, it's available to provide a reference for the 2nd finger. To play the 2nd finger note in tune, just squeeze the 2nd finger up against the 1st finger.
